Our Process

Understanding the client’s situation and project goals to inspire the design.

Developing a clear concept with early drawings, site plans, and cost estimates to define the project’s scope and budget.

Refining the approved concept into a detailed, coordinated plan, defining materials, systems, and layout with updated drawings and cost estimates.

Translating the approved design into detailed drawings and specifications for permitting, bidding, and construction, finalizing all decisions.

Helping the client make sure the project gets done according to the drawings by working with the contractor and answering questions during construction.

All phases of the design process are completed with a page turn session and client sign-off.

At Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects, our mission extends beyond the buildings we design; it lives in the way we engage with and give back to our community. Our team members actively serve in leadership roles within the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Flint chapter, helping shape the future of the profession while strengthening connections within our region. Beyond architecture, our staff contributes time and expertise to local Rotary Clubs, historical societies, and other nonprofit organizations, ensuring that we remain deeply connected to the people and places we serve. Together, we also volunteer as a group once a month with nonprofit organizations across Genesee County, reinforcing our belief that true impact happens when we roll up our sleeves and serve side by side with our neighbors.

Community Involvement

We believe that creating a better future starts with being present and active today. That means volunteering at events, serving on boards, mentoring the next generation, and supporting educational initiatives, including instructor roles that encourage young women to explore careers in STEM. Our commitment also extends into the work we do: we proudly partner with nonprofits on architectural projects, tailoring our services to fit their budgets so they can maximize their resources for their missions. Whether it’s lending our design expertise, giving our time to fundraising and community initiatives, or simply showing up to support local causes, Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects is committed to leaving our community stronger, more resilient, and more inspired than we found it.

Stephen Sedgewick

I’m proud to carry on the legacy of my father, Thomas, who founded our firm in 1958. Since earning my degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, I’ve spent over 41 years designing many of Flint’s most iconic municipal and public buildings. My father and I shared a passion for structural concrete, which we used in projects like the Genesee County Municipal Building, UM-Flint Theater, and the Flint Public Library Addition. I’ve also explored innovative uses of concrete, from zoo exhibits to passive dome homes, even designing the first underground house in Holland, MI, featured in Concrete Construction Magazine. My career has been defined by blending creativity with a deep technical understanding of complex building construction, and I’m proud to bring that expertise to every project.

Jeffrey Ferweda, AIA, NCARB

I bring a passion for design and a love for solving complex challenges, with projects ranging from specialized facilities to community spaces across Flint and the Midwest. Community involvement is at the heart of my work, I serve on local boards and commissions, mentor students from architectural programs across Michigan, and have worked alongside Flint church communities to address long-term issues from the water crisis. I’ve had the honor of serving as President of AIA Michigan, and representing our state on the AIA National Strategic Council, all while continuing to design spaces that make a lasting impact.

Architecture has always been a part of my life. As a kid, I would pore over floor plans in design magazines, and I’ve yet to find anything more fascinating than architecture, especially the concept of defining space. My degree in Classical Archaeology, the study of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, has given me a deep respect for the origins of the built environment and a strong foundation for understanding what makes great design today. While I once planned to become an architect, I discovered in college that I preferred a behind-the-scenes role in the industry. I’m trained in 3D design and love creating models and renderings that help clients visualize a project, as well as producing clean, accurate construction documents that ensure clarity in the field.

Brianna Fuller, AIA

I’m a licensed Architect passionate about sustainable design, using non-hazardous materials and efficient building systems to create healthy spaces for both people and the environment. For me, architecture is more than just buildings; it’s about shaping spaces that improve quality of life. I believe we shouldn’t settle for “good enough” but instead keep pushing for smarter, more efficient, and cost-effective ways to design our built environment. I’m especially passionate about designing for the community because I believe everyone deserves access to good design. Growing up in Clio and being born in Flint, I have a deep connection to the communities Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects serves, and I’m excited to help influence and improve them through my work and volunteer efforts.

Bailey Ramirez, Associate AIA Member

I’ve spent over 10 years in architecture, building a diverse portfolio and deepening my knowledge across many project types. I’m passionate about advocating for all users through thoughtful design and research, and I especially love historic preservation; breathing new life into old buildings is both an art form and a way to protect the environment. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Architecture (with distinction) from Lawrence Technological University and am working toward my architectural license. Outside of work, I stay active in the community as an executive board member for the Genesee County Historical Society, Associate Director for AIA Flint, and an instructor for the Women in Skilled Trades program.

Lauren Meyer, Associate AIA Member

I bring seven years of experience as an architectural intern and project manager, with a portfolio that spans K-12 and higher education, historic preservation, and healthcare. I’m currently working toward my architectural license in Michigan, having completed my internship hours and now preparing for board exams. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Architecture (with Distinction) from Lawrence Technological University, and my passion lies in project programming, development, and management—making sure my clients and consultants feel comfortable, informed, and confident throughout the entire design process.

I bring nine years of marketing experience to the firm. Starting back in 2016, I worked in resource development and marketing at United Way of Genesee County, building connections and learning the impact of strong storytelling. My path eventually led me outside of nonprofit work and away from the community. Through those experiences, I discovered my passion for marketing, blending creativity and strategy to craft campaigns that not only drive results but also build meaningful connections. I am excited to bring that to a place where design and creativity surround me every day. Architecture and design have always been close to my heart. Whether I’m walking through a Michigan town or exploring a new city, I’m always drawn first to the architecture, its beauty, and its story. For me, marketing has a similar feel: creating experiences that are not only effective but also leave a lasting impression.

Tiffini Greenfield

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always known I wanted to be in a creative field. During playtime, I would make dollhouses out of paper and when we would travel, I would look at old buildings, studying their details, and imagining how they could be revitalized. I specifically loved the tudor house down the road from my childhood home. I imagined what it looked like on the inside and was so excited when it finally went up for sale and I got to see it. That early fascination grew into a passion for architecture. Now I get to explore buildings, reimagine their purpose, and give them new life. Most of all, I love that my work creates spaces that serve communities, from homes to shops to gathering places that bring people together.
