MIVET Animal Clinic
Size: 2,994 square feet
Project Type: Remodel
Architect: Jeffrey Ferweda, AIA, NCARB
Completion Date: February 2020
Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects led the interior renovation of MIVet Animal Clinic, converting approximately 3,000 square feet of existing retail space into a modern veterinary clinic in Dexter, Michigan.
The project involved a full interior demolition and complete reconfiguration of the floor plan to support clinical workflows, patient care, and staff efficiency. To guide decision-making and reduce uncertainty, the design was developed using detailed 3D modeling, allowing the client to visualize the space and confirm functionality before construction.
ScopE of work
The clinic is located within the Dexter Crossing strip mall, where the project footprint was fixed and expansion was not an option. Working within the constraints of the existing exterior walls required a highly strategic approach to space planning.
Every square foot was carefully considered to balance exam rooms, treatment areas, back-of-house functions, and public spaces. The layout was designed to improve circulation, support daily operations, and create a clear, intuitive experience for both staff and clients within a confined commercial setting.
The site
Our design solution focused on maximizing performance within a limited footprint, transforming an underutilized retail interior into a purpose-built veterinary clinic. Strategic adjacencies and efficient planning allowed the space to function seamlessly without the need for additional square footage.
By aligning design decisions with operational goals early in the process, the renovation delivered a flexible, efficient clinic that supports high-quality veterinary care and positions the practice for long-term success.
