Orion Animal Hospital
Size: 5,662 square feet
Project Type: Renovation
Architect: Jeffrey Ferweda, AIA, NCARB
Completion Date: October 2018
Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects provided architectural design services for the interior fit-out of Orion Animal Hospital, a 5,662 square foot veterinary clinic delivered through a Design-Build partnership with Case Construction. This project began as a shell building, requiring full interior planning and layout to support clinical operations, patient care, and staff workflow.
Working closely with the veterinary team, the design focused on patient comfort, operational efficiency, and long-term flexibility. The scope included planning for five exam rooms, an oversized waiting area with separation between dogs and cats, a dedicated grief room, retail display areas for pet products, and back-of-house spaces organized to support daily workflows and staff adjacencies.
ScopE of work
Orion Animal Hospital was developed within a shell building, providing only the exterior walls at the start of the project. This allowed the design team to plan the interior from the ground up, tailoring the layout to the clinic’s specific operational needs rather than adapting to an existing floor plan.
The interior design balances public and clinical spaces, creating a welcoming experience for clients while maintaining efficient circulation and clear separation between patient types. Careful planning of room adjacencies and support spaces ensures smooth movement throughout the clinic and supports both patient care and staff efficiency.
